I really like it when books cut to the chase and "start in the middle". The beginning of the dead does not give an introduction or lead in, it simply jumps right into the action. The beginning is always the most difficult for me in any piece of writing. Introductions always seem very stilted and awkward to me, so I prefer to just start writing without any lead in.
I also caught this while reading, there was no "hello, this is what you're going to be reading about", The Dead just dives directly into the information.
ReplyDeleteIt gives me a little hope that maybe I don't have to struggle with introductions in the future, maybe I can just skip them.
I also had a hard time understanding The Dead because of the way it begun. It was very perplexed to me and it was hard for me to find out the plot of the story so I rarely could grip the contrast of the dead.
ReplyDeleteI liked that as well! I always seem to be so bored in the beginning while the author is doing introductions & trying to gently bring us into the story. I loved how we were just automatically brought into the story. No introductions, no explanations, nothing. We got right into the meat of the story immediately & I loved it.
